What is Malacef used for
Malacef should be considered as first choice for severe, acute malaria in hospital setting.
How Malacef works/How is Malacef administered?
Malacef 60, pfi is a vial with 60 mg Artesunate as powder for injection (sterile) and one ampoule with 1 ml sodiumbicarbonate.
The powder for injection should be dissolved in 1 ml sodiumbicarbonate solution. After reconstitution to a clear and particle free solution it should be mixed with 5 ml sterile saline solution or 5 ml 5% glucose solution for injection. The resulting solution should be administered by a professional (treating physician) at a rate of max 2 ml per minute. The solution should not be added to an infusion. Malacef 60, pfi should be considered as first choice for severe, acute malaria in hospital setting.
